Stalemates Same Old Scene

The whiff of Falcon hairspray. The tang of Snakebite. Everyone dressed in flattering black behind billowing clouds of dry ice. Glamour. Dressing up. Smoking those weird black cocktail cigarettes. The Stalemates want to bring all that back with Same Old Scene: music from the 60’s to the 90’s, made by glamorous people for glamorous people. Dancing is encouraged. Posing is de rigueur.

Margot Kidder is back, in this Canadian proto-slasher film, inspired by the “babysitter and the man upstairs” urban legend and a spate of real-life murders that took place in the Westmount district of Montreal.
Black Christmas was a huge influence on John Carpenter’s Halloween, spawning the entire slasher film genre. Though I wouldn’t hold that against it. Oh, and John Saxon is in this film. John Saxon. You love John Saxon.
