Botanic Gardens is only 500 meters from The Harrison. It is home to the Victorian Palmhouse, the tropical ravine, the Ulster Museum and acres of beautiful landscaped grounds. Botanic is famous for its magnificent flowers and Chinese garden. It is ideal for a stroll, bike ride or a picnic and just to watch the world go by.
In Victorian times people used to pay to enter the gardens but at the turn of the 20th century it was taking over by Belfast City Council for all to enjoy. The Palmhouse was the first building in the UK to use curved glass in its architecture. It preceeded Kew Gardens in London in this regard. Belfast was a major city in these days with great wealth which is reflected in many of the buildings near The Harrison.
