Samuel Barclay Beckett (13 April 1906 – 22 December 1989) was an Irish novelist, playwright, short story writer, theatre director, poet, and literary translator. His best-known work is his 1953 play Waiting for Godot. He attended Portora School in Enniskillen When Beckett taught at Campbell College in Belfast the headmaster called him in to his office to remind him that he was teaching the cream of Ulster. Beckett famously replied "Yes, rich and thick!"
